For the inauguration of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America , unprecedented security measures were taken. Of the planned 40,000 security troops, there were 25,000 law enforcement officers, 10,000 National Guards and 5,000 active duty soldiers. The underground trains were patrolled 155 teams of plainclothes officials and 99 federal, state and local agencies worked with Washington police. The President was protected by the largest amount of bullet proof glass ever to surround an American official, while the entire area around Capitol Hill and the White House was cordoned off and more than 100 streets were denied to traffic. Flight restrictions for private aircraft were in force over Washington and helicopters fed live video into the security command post in Northern Virginia . The total cost of the security operation has been reported at US$75 million.
There has not been as assassination attempt on an American President since that on Ronald Reagan in 1981, but four have been killed to date.
