The largest private jet is the Boeing Business Jet 747-8, which has a maximum take-off weight of 447,700 kg (987,000 lb). According to figures published by Boeing in December 2018, 11 of these $364-million jets have been delivered to private customers since the model's introduction in 2007, and six were in active operation.
Each BBJ 747-8 leaves the factory in what's called a "green" state – with no interior fittings aside from the cockpit. The customer then has to have it fitted out by an independent Licensed Completion Center. The BBJ 747-8 has either 444.6 or 481 m^2 (4,786 or 5,179 sq ft) of floor space, depending on how the customer wants to utilise the space over the main cabin.
Known operators of the BBJ 747-8 include the heads of state of Brunei, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar and Turkey. The Chinese government also reportedly operates a BBJ 747-8, but it's not clear in what capacity.
In 2012 it was widely reported that the Kingdom Holding Company (SAU) had purchased an Airbus A380 (which has a max takeoff weight of 576,000 kg) for conversion into a private jet for its CEO, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. However, it seems that their option on the airframe was sold in 2013 before it had ever been used. It is not clear whether or not the airframe was ever fitted out for private use, or if it was sold in its "green" state.
In November 2019 Airbus made a statement that suggested that the company was considering selling some second-hand A380s for conversion into private jets, but no examples have yet been completed.
