The lower jaw measures more than 65% of the length of the fish's body and extends posteriorly far beyond the base of the pectoral fin and opercular opening. The common name for this fish is the pugnacious dreamer and is known from only three specimens captured at depths between 400–2,000 m (1,310–6,560 ft) in the Western Pacific Ocean. The largest know specimen is 50 mm (2 in) long.
