The shortest presidency was that of Pedro Lascuráin, who governed Mexico on 19 February 1913 for less than one hour. Lascuráin was the legal successor to President Francisco Ignacio Maderno, who was deposed along with his vice president, Jose Maria Pino Suarez (both of whom were later assassinated on 22 February 1913). This forced Lascuráin, who had been Minister of Foreign Affairs, to become the president. His only act as president of Mexico was to appoint the mastermind of the coup, General Victoriano Huerta, as Minister of Foreign Affairs so that when he resigned he would be replaced by Huerta as president.
