In 2000 Americans spent over $110 billion (£72.6 billion) on fast food, more than on higher education, personal computers or new cars. On any one day approximately 25% of adults in the USA visits a fast food outlet. The typical American eats roughly three hamburgers and four orders of french fries a week. There are currently more than 300,000 fast food restaurants in the USA.
