Dolly Parton (USA) is a 55-time Grammy Awards nominee and has received 11 statuettes, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. The legendary entertainer secured her first nomination at the 12th Grammy Awards in 1970 (Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for “Just Someone I Used to Know”, with Porter Wagoner), and her most recent at the 67th Grammy Awards in 2025 (Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording for Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones). Parton has been nominated for at least one Grammy in 37 different years – more than any other vocalist, any other woman and any other country artist. Dolly has picked up eight nominations (and two wins) from the six most recent editions of the Grammys (62nd to 67th) combined.
Parton’s nods include Best Female Country Vocal Performance (18 nominations), Song of the Year and Best Country Song (“9 to 5”, 1982), Album of the Year (Trio, with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, 1988) and Best Country Album (Trio II, with Harris and Ronstadt, 2000; Halos & Horns, 2003).
Her Grammy wins include Best Country Song (see above), Best Bluegrass Album (The Grass Is Blue, 2001), Best Female Country Vocal Performance (for her cover of rock band Collective Soul’s “Shine”, 2002) and, most recently, Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song (“There was Jesus”, with Zach Williams, 2021).
Three of Parton’s most popular songs, “I Will Always Love You” (2007), “Jolene” (2014) and “Coat of Many Colors” (2019), have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Willie Nelson’s 57 nods in 1975–2024, including wins for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance in 2023, have put him at the head of the pack among traditional country artists.
Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, two female artists with strong links to country music, have more nominations than Dolly (58 and 99, respectively), but have not dedicated the vast majority of their careers to the genre.
