Eleanor Catton (New Zealand, b. 24 September 1985) was 28 years old when she won the Booker Prize on 15 October 2013 for her novel The Luminaries. The novel is a Victorian mystery set during the New Zealand gold rush, and is structured according to astrological charts.
As of the same date, William Golding (UK, b. 19 September 1911–d. 19 June 1993) is the oldest Booker Prize winner. He was 69 when he was awarded the prize in 1980 for his book Rites of Passage.
According to the Man Booker Prize website, The Luminaries is also the "longest winning novel in the prize’s history...at 832 pages".
