The most eSports race wins by an active Formula 1 driver is 4, achieved by George Russell (UK) in the 2020 F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix between 10 May and 14 June 2020. The Virtual Grand Prix was established during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a way for Formula 1 fans to keep engaged with the sport.
The 2020 F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix races were held within the game F1 2019 (Codemasters). George Russell was driving for ROKiT Williams Racing, the eSports team operated by the Williams Formula 1 team that he drives for in real life. He won at the virtual versions of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Spain), Circuit de Monaco (Monaco), Baku City Circuit(Azerbaijan) and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (Canada).
This run of eSports victories made a welcome change of pace for the 22-year-old driver, a former Formula 2 champion who is widely regarded as a promising future championship contender. In the real world he has been struggling with the Williams team car, which has been plagued by reliability and performance problems, leaving him near that back of the grid at most races.
