The swim was supported by the Chilean Navy and harbour officials at Puerto Natales, starting at 9.44 a.m. and ending at 10.50 a.m. local time. The average water temperature for the swim, which lasted 1 hour 6 minutes 15 seconds, was 4.53°C (40.15°F). As per IISA rules, to qualify for an ice swim, the water must be sub 5°C (41°F) and the swimmer may wear only a swimsuit, cap and goggles.

This surpassed the mark of 3.54 km (2.19 mi) swam by Izabela Babica (Poland) in Lake Strzeszyńskie near Poznań, Wielkopolska, Poland, on 8 March 2025.

Hernández Huerta (aka the "Ice Mermaid") also currently holds the record for the longest polar ice swim (female), having covered 2.5 km (1.55 mi) in Chile Bay, aka Discovery Bay (latitude 62.29°S), off Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands, on 5 February 2023.
