Elvis Presley (USA, 1935–77) scored his 13th No.1 album on the UK's Official Albums Chart on 3 November 2016 with The Wonder of You, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. "The King", who was previously tied with Madonna for the most UK chart-toppers by a solo artist, achieved his first UK No.1 with Rock 'n Roll on 10 November 1956 – one week shy of exactly 60 years before The Wonder of You.
Elvis' 13 UK No.1 albums are:
Rock 'n Roll (1 week at No.1 – 10 November 1956);
Loving You (soundtrack) (3 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 from 7 September 1957);
King Creole (soundtrack) (7 weeks at No.1 from 20 September 1958);
Elvis is Back! (1 week at No.1 – 30 July 1960);
G.I. Blues (soundtrack) (22 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 from 14 January 1961);
Blue Hawaii (soundtrack) (18 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 from 6 January 1962);
Pot Luck (6 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 from 28 July 1962);
From Elvis in Memphis (1 week at No.1 – 30 August 1969);
40 Greatest Hits (1 week at No.1 – 10 September 1977);
Elv1s - 30 #1 Hits (2 weeks at No.1 from 5 October 2002);
The King (1 week at No.1 – 25 August 2007);
If I Can Dream (2 weeks at No.1 from 12 November 2015);
The Wonder of You (1 week at No.1 – 3 November 2016).
Elvis' 13 No.1s combined have spent 66 weeks at the top of the Official Albums Chart (correct to 3 November 2016).
The Wonder of You beat off competition from Michael Bublé (Nobody But Me), Lady Gaga (Joanne), Leonard Cohen (You Want it Darker), three other Top 10 new entries and the previous week's No.1, Walls by Kings of Leon, to claim the top spot, with sales of 63,500.
Elvis has the biggest time span of No.1 albums in UK chart history – 59 years 359 days, from 10 November 1956 to 3 November 2016.
The Beatles are the only act with more UK No.1 albums – 15, from Please Please Me in April 1963 to 1 in November 2000.
Madonna's 12 UK chart-toppers were achieved between 21 September 1985 (Like a Virgin) and 7 April 2012 (MDNA).
Robbie Williams was hoping to equal Elvis Presley and Madonna for the most UK No.1 albums by a solo artist with The Heavy Entertainment Show (released on 4 November 2016), but if the album goes to No.1 on the chart dated 17 November, as expected, he will now tie only Madonna in second place, with 12 UK No.1s apiece.
