Muja, an American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) has lived in Belgrade Zoo, Serbia, since 12 September 1937. It is not known how old he was on arrival (although he was fully grown), but the 78 years 219 days he has been living in Belgrade Zoo to 18 April 2016 are enough to make him the oldest living alligator.

As a young alligator, Muja survived the World War II battle of Belgrade, during which the zoo was almost completely levelled by artillery fire and aerial bombing. More recently, he lived through the 1999 NATO bombing of Belgrade, which saw massive bombs and cruise missiles destroy buildings within a few blocks of his home. In 2012, he had to have surgery to amputate one of his feet after it become infected.
