The oldest tropical rainforest in the world is the Daintree Rainforest, which is located on the north-east coast of Queensland, Australia. It covers around 1,200 square kilometres (463 square miles) and is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland, which was made a World Heritage Site in 1988 by UNESCO. The rainforest represents the largest single contiguous block of rainforest in Australia and is estimated to be as old as 180 million years.

The rainforest is home to one-third of Australia’s species of marsupial, frog and reptile species and 65% of its butterfly and bat species. It also contains around 12,000 insect species.
