Best-selling pirates-themed videogame

There have been many celebrated pirates-based videogames throughout the years, not least Sid Meier's 8-bit/16-bit classic Pirates! (1987) and LucasArts' seminal point-and-click adventure The Secret of Monkey Island (1990). However, as of 24 July 2015, the single best-selling videogame with pirates was Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2013). The sixth main instalment in Ubisoft's lauded stealth series, Black Flag has sold 12.36 million units across multiple platforms. The game saw players slip into the waterlogged boots of pirate-turned-assassin Edward Kenway, and also introduced some ship-based combat in an 18th-century Caribbean setting.
