According to figures by The-Numbers.com, Universal Pictures' The Secret Life of Pets (USA, 2016), a brand-new idea not based on any pre-existing storylines or characters, grossed $104,352,905 (£80,568,300) when it opened in 4,370 US theatres in the weekend of 8–10 July 2016.
The Secret Life of Pets also set a new record for widest release for an animated movie, opening in 4,370 US theatres on 8 July 2016.
