Fraternal twin David H. Koch (USA, b.3 May 1940) is the richest twin in the world, with a net worth of US$40 billion (then £27 billion). He places sixth in the list of the richest Fortune 500 people in the world, sharing that rank with his older brother Charles. David Koch is a chemical engineer and executive vice-president of Koch Industries, the second largest closely held company in the USA. Koch Industries was founded in 1940 by Fred Koch, David’s father. David received his college education at MIT where he was also on the basketball team. He was a vice-presidential candidate of the Libertarian party in the 1980 US election. Koch is also a philanthropist, active in the Koch Charitable Foundation that supports projects in science, medicine and the arts.

Koch’s twin brother William (Bill) Koch is founder and head of the Oxbow Corporation located in West Palm Beach in Florida, USA. The twins were involved in many difficult disputes over the family business, leading to closely watched legal proceedings. Their relationship as twins has been tense over the years, but there have been periods of reconciliation. Bill Koch won the America’s cup in 1992 with a sailboat of his own design. Koch was the fourth-richest person in the United States in 2012 and was the wealthiest resident of New York City in 2013. As of June 2019, Koch was ranked as the 11th-richest person in the world (tied with his brother Charles), with a fortune of $50.5 billion.
