According to VGChartz.com, Gears of War 3 (Epic Games, 2011) sold 3 million copies worldwide in its first week on sale as of 26 September 2011. Even before it was released, Gears of War 3 was breaking sales records. Over a million fans of the series had placed pre-orders for the game by May 2011, more than four months before its scheduled release date.
