The most gold medals won at the Winter Olympics by a female athlete is eight, by cross-country skier Marit Bjørgen (Norway) in 2010–18. On 25 February 2018, Bjørgen won her eighth gold in the 30 km mass start classic in Pyeongchang, South Korea. It was her second gold of the Games, having been part of Norway’s triumphant team in the 4 x 5 km relay on 17 February. Bjørgen won the individual sprint, individual pursuit and the 4 x 5 km relay in 2010, and followed up with the 15 km skiathlon, 30 km freestyle and team sprint in 2014.
