No feature-length animated films were nominated for the prestigious Best Picture Oscar until 1992, when Disney’s Beauty and the Beast made the shortlist, losing out to Silence of the Lambs at the awards ceremony on 30 March 1992.
A separate category for Best Animated Feature was finally introduced in 2001.
