In September 2012, teenager Tord Oksnes became the third member of his family to hit the jackpot in the Norwegian National Lottery when he won 12.2 million kroner (£1.3 million). Three years previously, Tord's sister Hege Jeanette won 8.2 million kroner (£880,000). Three years before that, Tord and Hege's father Leif won 8.4 million kroner (£900,000). "I actually have a bit of a guilty conscience about winning so much money," Tord Oksnes told Bergens Tidende. "I'm sure there's somebody who could have done with the money more than me." Tord Oksnes says he has no plans to leave his job as a trainee technician at a local energy firm in his home town of Austevollthe. He was even reluctant to take a day off to celebrate. He also says he will continue driving his 11-year-old car as long as it remains roadworthy. He does, however, plan to buy an apartment and rent it out for a few years until he feels ready to move away from his mother. "I'm also going to pay back my sister, who lent me the money to get a drivers' licence."

Asked about her 8.2-million kroner (£880,000) lottery win, Hege Jeanette said that the secret to winning the jackpot was "getting pregnant". This is because two of the family's lottery wins took place within hours of her giving birth. Hege has stayed at the petrol station where she works, although she is currently on maternity leave.

Asked for his recipe for success, Tord replied "I don't know. The whole thing is inexplicable."
