Tallest tree species

Redwoods (genera Sequoia and Sequoiadendron), eucalypts (genus Eucalyptus, often called gum trees) and the Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), a type of pine, share the distinction of being the world’s tallest tree species. All types of tree have been recorded growing to heights of over 113 metres (372 feet).

Currently, only six tree species have living individuals taller than 95 m (311 ft 8 in): four are from the west coast of North America (Sequoia sempervirens, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Picea sitchensis and Sequoiadendron giganteum); one is from south-east Australia (Eucalyptus regnans); and one is from Malaysian Borneo (Shorea faguetiana).
