"I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston (USA, 1963–2012) and "Umbrella" by Rihanna (Barbados, b. Robyn Rihanna Fenty) each topped the UK singles chart for 10 consecutive weeks, from 5 December 1992 to 6 February 1993 and from 26 May 2007 to 28 July 2007, respectively.

Whitney Houston and Rihanna, therefore, also hold the record for the most cumulative weeks at No.1 on UK singles chart (solo female, individual single). "I Will Always Love You", written by country singer Dolly Parton (USA), appeared on the soundtrack to the film The Bodyguard (USA, 1992), in which Whitney Houston made her acting debut. The single also holds the record for the longest consecutive stay at No.1 by a solo female on the Billboard Hot 100. "Umbrella", a duet with US rapper Jay-Z (USA, b. Shawn Carter), has sold more than 600,000 copies in the UK, is the longest-running No.1 of the 21st century to date and was the second best-selling single of 2007 behind "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis (UK).
