The largest hotel made of salt is the hotel and spa facility of the Palacio de Sal, situated on the salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. Constructed from around a million 35-cm blocks weighing a total of 10,000 tonnes, the 16-bedroom, 4,500-m² hotel boasts floors, walls, ceilings, tables, chairs, beds, saltwater dip pool and a nine-hole golf course – all made of salt! Originally constructed in the 1990s, the present hotel was rebuilt in 2007.
The salt blocks are fused together by a mix water and salt, which forms a cement-like substance.
