The largest wing chun display is 10,021 people and was achieved by Sichuan Southwest Vocational College of Civil Aviation (China) in Chengdu, Sichuan, China on 8 January 2015.
All students at the college (20,000) are required to take weekly lessons in wing chun. The college is China's largest civil aviation training centre. Wing chun is learned as part of the students' counter-terrorist training. It replaced tae kwondo as the martial arts training of choice within the last year, as it was considered a more appropriate form of combat within the cramped confines of aeroplane cabins.
Students learn a series of 18 different movements. Wing chun is taught by the Chongqing Wing Chun Association, which is headed by Tu Tengyao, who is a descendant of Ye Wen, the founder of Wing Chun, which originates from Foshan in China's Guangdong Province. Bruce Lee, the most famous Chinese proponent of martial arts, practiced and developed his own form of wing chun.
